The book is devoted to the problems of involvement people into environmental management. Fundamentals of sociocultural methodology of this management and major directions of its practical realization are considered. Approaches to environmental management developed by the author are based on the proposed model "responsible person". Biodiversity conservation control mechanisms and research and information base for decision making were developed on the basis of the results of economic assessment of natural resources and ecosystem services, revenue comparison received by specific groups of users and expenditures on their conservation.
Report contains the results of the project “Preservation of natural ecosystems of the Caucasus eco-region on the basis of the development and introduction of environmental management model”. The work was accomplished on the pilot territory of Arkhyz Rural Municipality and was focused on elaboration of the economically effective model of economic activity based on non-depleting use of natural resources and observation of priorities of biodiversity conservation.
For the first time proposals on giving this territory environmental status were formulated on the basis of information about economic value and real users of natural resources and ecosystem services of the territory, on the correlation of interests of using environmental complexes and costs of their maintenance, that on the one hand, meets interests of biodiversity conservation, and on the other hand, do not destroy the balance of interests related to the use of environmental resources and do not cause potential social conflicts in environmental sphere, thus providing for a transition to sustainable development of the region.
